Preparing your property for a gravel delivery in the Peace Region
A practical checklist for discussing gravel delivery access, drop locations, gates and timing at a Peace Region property.
The delivery address is only part of arranging a load of gravel. Dispatch also needs to understand how a truck reaches the property and where the material is intended to go. Discuss those details before the truck is scheduled.
This is especially useful for rural properties where a mailing address, driveway entrance and work area may be in different places.
Describe the route from the road
Mention the gate, turns, slope and any narrow sections. Let dispatch know about bridges, culverts, soft shoulders or other features that may affect access. Do not assume a route is suitable for a loaded truck because a pickup uses it regularly.
Give clear directions and a contact number for someone who understands the property. If more than one entrance exists, identify the intended entrance. Any access decision belongs with the people planning and carrying out the delivery.
Discuss the drop location
Explain the spot where you would like material placed and what surrounds it. Overhead lines, nearby buildings and limited manoeuvring room matter. The driver may need a different arrangement after assessing conditions.
Do not promise that a truck can spread material along a driveway without first discussing the job. Supply, unloading and follow-on grading are distinct parts of the scope.
Confirm timing and access arrangements
Tell dispatch if a gate must be unlocked or another contractor will be on site. Keep people, pets and parked vehicles away from the agreed work area. Arrange communication in advance instead of approaching moving equipment.
Seasonal conditions may affect the route as well as the property. British Columbia publishes current load-restriction information. Relevant restrictions and access conditions need to be checked for the actual route and delivery date.

Have your material enquiry, approximate quantity or dimensions, location and preferred timing ready. Add any access concern even if you are unsure whether it matters. It is easier to discuss a tight gate before a truck arrives.
